ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN) – The Ministry of National Security has responded to and refuted recent allegations made by the online publication Caribbean Times/St. Kitts and Nevis Times regarding National Disaster Coordinator Abdias Samuel.

According to the publication, Samuel was either fired or placed on pre-retirement leave during the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, when Prime Minister Dr. Terrence Drew allegedly called him back to oversee NEMA’s actions for the upcoming storms.

In response, the Ministry of National Security issued a statement refuting the claims. The statement said: “The Ministry of National Security categorically denies the allegations circulated by the Caribbean Times/St. Kitts and Nevis Times which falsely suggest that the National Disaster Coordinator, Abdias Samuel, was fired or put on retirement leave and then recalled by Prime Minister Dr. Terence Drew to manage NEMA’s response to the impending storm.”

The Ministry of Health clarified that Samuel had voluntarily retired after nearly 25 years with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The Ministry of Health also confirmed that Samuel had not been called back to service but had volunteered his expertise to support the Federation’s disaster preparedness efforts.

The ministry stressed the importance of accurate information and urged the public to ignore false reports.
