Libreville, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – Financing of infrastructure projects in key sectors such as transport, energy, health and education was the main topic of the conference.
On August 7, the Minister of Economy and Participation, Mays Mouissi, received in her office a delegation led by Alain Ebobisse, General Manager of the Africa 50 platform.
It is important to note that this structure was created by a number of African countries in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fill the financing gap for infrastructure development in Africa. The institution currently mobilizes private and public funds in twenty-four (24) African countries, while making a considerable contribution to the sustainable development of infrastructure on the continent.
In fact, Mr. Alain Ebobisse expressed the desire of Africa50 to support Gabon in the realization of its various projects, including the construction of the IPP Orinko power plant with a capacity of 120 MW, the Owendo-By-Through bypass and the strengthening of the electric energy transmission network, all within the framework of a public-private partnership.
While welcoming the commitment, Mess Moisi thanked the host, the Africa 50 Group of 50, for its interest in the development of infrastructure in Gabon, while reiterating the transitional government’s open-door policy, which implicitly involves the diversification of public-private partnerships.
For him, this financing method not only allows the mobilization of necessary and sufficient resources very quickly, but also allows the sharing of risks while minimizing the impact on public debt. In summary, the discussions between the Minister of Economy and the members of the Africa 50 Platform delegation focused on the financing of infrastructure projects in key areas such as transport, energy, health and education.
