When you’re in the middle of a campaign, people, especially the media, tend to overestimate the importance of certain events. These events include high-profile gaffes, vice presidential elections, controversial ads, and other moments that get a lot of attention… things that have no measurable impact. The media is interested in grabbing people’s attention, but a lot of the stories you read or see focus on trivial things. How a campaign goes depends largely on fundamentals.
