The largest airstrike on Ukraine since the war began

Russia has launched missiles and drones into more than half of Ukraine, hitting the power grid there. Russia has confirmed that it attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and claimed that it had hit all the targets it intended to attack. Poland said an “object” entered its territory during the attack, and Polish Army spokesman Jacek Golishevski said it was most likely a drone.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) spokesman Farahlah condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and declared Russia’s intrusion into NATO airspace “irresponsible” and “potentially dangerous.”

In December 2023, Russia launched an airstrike on Ukraine, with the Russian military launching 158 missiles and drones at Ukrainian targets, which was previously considered the largest such attack during the Ukrainian war.

In addition to wanting to destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Moscow also wanted to destroy Ukrainians’ morale on Sunday and Monday. Their mood has improved significantly since the Ukrainian army invaded Russia’s Kursk region. On Monday, the Russian army wanted to remind them that it still has the upper hand in the war. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said that Russia attacked 15 regions of Ukraine. They attacked them with drones, cruise missiles and supersonic missiles. There were deaths in the Dnipropetrovsk (2), Zaporizhia (1), Kharkiv (1), Zhytomyr (1) and Volyn (1) regions. Due to the Russian attack, many Ukrainian cities lost electricity and water. The hydroelectric power station north of Kiev was also damaged in the attack.
