Sending Thai workers to work abroad is considered an important policy of the Ministry of Labor to boost the economy. The target for this year is 100,000 people. As of the end of July, 77,918 Thai workers have been sent, achieving 77.92% of the target. Recently, the Minister of Labor signed a memorandum of understanding on organizing the dispatch of Thai workers to the Republic. South Korea’s system for employing foreign workers (Employment Permit System: EPS) between the Thai Ministry of Labor and the Korean Ministry of Labor and Employment will be established according to the Cabinet Resolution of July 23, 2024.

The above MOU is valid for two years until a new MOU is signed. The new MOU adds measures to help workers in the event of a disaster. And shortens the time required to return to work in Korea. For workers who have worked for 4 years and 10 months without changing jobs, there will be one month left from the original 3 months. This year, Thailand has allocated quotas for E-9 visa workers in the manufacturing category. A total of 8,688 people in agriculture, animal husbandry, construction, and service industries, an increase of 3,888 from last year. So far, 3,270 people have been sent, and it is expected that they can be sent according to the allocated indicators.

However, the MOU will serve as a clear framework for cooperation in sending Thai workers to work in Korea. Since recruitment, language and skills testing, travel expenses or expenses, visas and immigration, work and residence, and return trips after a specified period of work, these will help prevent illegal stay in Korea. Creating transparency takes into account the common interests of both parties.
