Mumbai: Global celebrities including society sisters Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian arrived in India on Friday for a lavish three-day wedding hosted by Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani.
Ambani’s youngest son Anant and his fiancée Radhika Merchant, both 29, are set to marry in the financial capital of Mumbai this weekend after months of pre-wedding parties in a lavish ceremony that will set a new benchmark for lavish weddings.
Earlier celebrations included a European cruise for 1,200 guests, a party at the Ambani ancestral home where a purpose-built Hindu temple was unveiled and private performances by R&B star Rihanna and Canadian singer Justin Bieber.
The Kardashians were among a host of foreign VIPs who attended the recent event. Sister Kim shared an Instagram story showing her car being mobbed by Indian photographers shortly after her arrival, and the sisters receiving floral garlands from staff at the luxury hotel.
Actor John Cena, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan struck a pose on the red carpet as they arrived at the venue, a massive convention center owned by the Ambani family conglomerate. Reporters also spotted former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair arriving at Mumbai airport ahead of the party later on Friday.
Earlier, guests attending the couple’s pre-wedding dinner included Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, former US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and well-known figures in the Indian sports and entertainment industry.
In June, the couple embarked on a four-day Mediterranean cruise, where singer Katy Perry performed at a masquerade ball at a French chateau in Cannes. The Backstreet Boys, American rapper Pitbull and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli also provided entertainment. This week’s lavish celebrations will raise the bar further as more celebrities, politicians and the global business elite fly into monsoon-ravaged Mumbai.
Authorities have blocked several major roads around the venue to public traffic for much of the coming weekend. Further down the Ambani family street, popularly known as Billionaires Row, traffic has been at a standstill all week as mobile cranes installed festive lights and decorations.
