Muscat: The Joint Committee of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation held its second meeting last week at Nizwa Hall, the main office of the Ministry of Education.
The committee is chaired by Professor Abdullah bin Khamis Al-Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of Education, and Dr. Bashit bin Ahmed Al-Mahri, Undersecretary of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
The meeting discussed joint cooperation and exchange of expertise and information between the two ministries in areas such as control and conditions of admissions to educational professions and educational qualification courses, as well as the participation of experts and course specialists from the Ministry of Education in the joint committee with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
The meeting also discussed the creation of postgraduate courses and studies aligned with the new curricula and learning pathways to train professional teachers, and coordinating with educational institutions the readiness of the outcomes of vocational and technical education pathways in order to prioritize these outcomes and continue university studies in these professional fields.
The committee also discussed the development of descriptions of new learning materials for the 2024-2025 academic year that are compatible with existing learning programs and participated in the identification of elective materials for grades 9-12 that are compatible with the needs of higher education institutions and the labor market. The committee also reviewed the collaboration in the implementation of the “Work Experience” and “My Major is My Career” programs.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation understanding the needs of the Ministry of Education for teachers and professions over the next 5 years, developing appropriate plans to meet these needs and establishing a list of students who will benefit from designated study seats under the teaching positions localization program, as well as other areas of joint cooperation between the two ministries.
