The Very Short Film Festival “VS-FILM”, in collaboration with the Higher School of Art Criticism, organizes a competition for the best article or critical study on very short films of no more than 10 minutes.
The winning articles and research proposals will be published at the Festival and on the platforms of the Higher School of Art Criticism, and the winners will receive a prize of up to (£30,000), with the first prize winner receiving £15,000, the second prize receiving £10,000 and the third prize receiving £5,000.
Dr. Rania Yahya, the academy’s president, said: The purpose of the competition is to consolidate the critical importance of ultra-short films that have occupied a prominent place in viewing on various platforms while allocating huge budgets to them to produce them in a highly artistic form.
“Yahya” said that the doors to apply for the competition will be opened in a few days to students, critics and amateurs with a critical vision.
Dr. Osama Abu Nar, the president of the festival, said: “When we thought about hosting this competition, we decided to go to the academic center of art criticism, the Higher School of Art Criticism, and we were delighted by the enthusiasm and passion we received. We received unlimited support from Dr. Ghada Jabara, the director of the Academy of Arts, and Dr. Rania Yahya, the director of the Higher School of Art Criticism.”
It was explained that there would be a link to receive the competing articles and studies and present them to a jury selected from among the professors and leading film critics of the institute.
Festival vice-president Ziad Basmir said the competition was a vital complement to the festival because the passion for watching films would be incomplete without reading articles and critical research, until viewing and criticism became one.
Emphasizes the importance of research and critical writing in lighting the way for both filmmakers and audiences.
He said: “Making very short films is no more important than making feature films, but often surpasses feature films in the way they are implemented. This requires special talents on the part of the maker, and we try to control the rhythm through the festival being a real thermometer for making this type of film, while supporting the idea of academic criticism of it.”
