Mugla Governor Idris Akbıyık came to Bodrum this evening to make a press statement regarding the construction ban on the district governor’s office building. Governor Akbıyık said the construction ban will start on May 15, 2024 and last until October 15, 2024, with the aim of preventing the tourism industry from being negatively affected in terms of noise and visual pollution. Civil administration and Bodrum City Council members also attended the meeting.

“Tourism activities should not be harmed”

Governor Akbiyek said in a statement:

* “It is understood that in order to make the tourism industry in our country sustainable, branded and permanent in quality, to prevent tourism activities from being damaged, and to prevent heavy transportation, excavation and mortar construction activities that cause negative impacts such as environmental pollution from May 15 to October 15, restrictions will be imposed. It can be seen that news in the media and social media sometimes have incorrect evaluations of these practices, “it is necessary to issue a press release to correctly inform the public.”

“Our goal is to protect the safety of tourists”

Governor Akbiyek went on to issue the following statement:

*“The restrictions imposed on construction activities throughout the city are intended to protect the safety of our citizens and guests visiting our city by minimizing sound, visual and environmental pollution during the tourist season. Through this application, the Government is seeking to protect the brand. In order to implement the restrictions more effectively and efficiently, we have carefully evaluated the notifications and complaints received by the Governor in collaboration with all relevant agencies and organizations. And take the necessary actions.

* In addition, we will take the necessary penalties within the framework of the relevant legal provisions for those who do not comply with the construction ban. Our Governor’s Office does not make any decisions regarding freedom of construction, and we ask our citizens to inform our Governor’s Office, regional governors, municipalities, gendarmerie and police units about those issues that create a bad image and cause discomfort. “We will continue our efforts with the determination to maximize the tourism potential of our city and in the process improve the quality of life of our citizens and guests visiting our city.”

‘No special permission’

Governor Akbıyık said that the information that some construction companies continued their activities with special permits was not true and that no special permits were obtained. At the time Governor Akbıyık made the statement, construction works were seen continuing in Torba, Konacık, Turgutreis and Yalıkavak neighborhoods.
