The body of a police lieutenant colonel who was killed in a drug gang was doused with water. His grieving wife applied for police service in place of her deceased husband.

The case began last night, July 11, 2024, when the investigation team of the Nawai Police Station in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, surrounded and searched the defendant. There was an arrest warrant for drug-related cases. The police found him hiding in Chua Chan Village, Mueang Na Subdistrict, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province. The defendant is Mr. Jai Chaka, 37 years old, a Myanmar citizen, who had received an arrest warrant for drug-related cases until the Chief of Police Jiraphon Wangsaeng and the Commander of the Police Investigation Department, Sergeant Saranyu Singkham, came with troops to find out. During the investigation, the gangsters were ready to deal with the police. Shot into the neck with a long shotgun, the bullet penetrated the lungs. Sergeant Saranyu, also known as Mu Joe, died when he was taken to the hospital. When Police Captain Jiraphon was shot in the middle and ring finger area, he was also injured. At the time of the incident, the criminals took advantage of the darkness and escaped by taking advantage of their expertise.The police investigation team, Nawai Police Station, Provincial Police District 5, and Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station chased and surrounded the criminals in order to capture them as soon as possible.

At 4:30 pm on July 14, 2024, at Wat Prasat, Phra Singh sub-district, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province, relatives brought the body of Police Lieutenant Colonel Saranyu Singkham, and Squad Commander S. Por Na Wai went to the temple to perform the funeral watering ceremony. Senior police officers included Police Major General Thanarat Chumsawat and Police Major General Thawatchai. Pongwi Wattanachai, Chiang Mai Police Commander, and other police colleagues participated in pouring water on the body and mourning

Reporters reported that an Abhidhamma prayer ceremony will be held the night before the funeral, and the body will be transported back to its hometown in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, to await royal cremation.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s wife, Ms Ratchadaporn Bunruang, said she would apply for police service in her husband’s place as she had to raise the children.
