The shocking accusation comes from Antoaneta Elena Voicu, a doctor at Saint Pantelimon Hospital who wanted to investigate suspicious deaths at ATI but was fired. The doctor tells exclusively to “Adevărul” what happened after he drew attention to suspicious deaths at the hospital.
“When I learned about what happened in the ICU, I advised the staff of the ward to tell the truth, not to be afraid, to go to the prosecutor’s office and tell the truth about what happened. I am a doctor, I cannot remain silent, for me the patients are the most important. The truth will come out”, says Dr. Antoaneta Elena Voicu in “Adevărul”. However, Antoaneta Elena Voicu alleges that the harassment began after the details of the suspicious deaths of patients at the “San Pantelimon” hospital emerged. “Immediately after the scandal, the ATI director and the hospital management launched a campaign of harassment and defamation against me. Two female doctors, now detained, complained about me to the College of Physicians, demanding the revocation of my right to practice freely. Only this did not happen. The purpose of these reports is simple, we want people to know the truth. I later also reported to the College of Physicians, but still did not receive a response. I will go to the White Sail. If necessary, I will also go to the European Court of Human Rights”, says Antoaneta Elena Voicu.
The doctor decided to challenge his dismissal in court. The doctor who complained about irregularities at the “Saint Pantelimon” Hospital in Bucharest has been a whistleblower in good faith for years. She also revealed the reason for her dismissal: “Because I would tell the nurses to clean the toilets. I challenged the dismissal decision and the case is currently being heard in the Bucharest Court. At the moment, the deadline has not been set.” The prosecutor’s investigation into suspicious deaths began in April 2024, after the medical director of the “Saint Pantelimon” Hospital informed the manager that a nurse reported that between April 4 and 7, 2024, in the anesthesia and intensive care units, no less than 17 deaths were reported. The nurse pointed out that the cause of these large deaths was a reduction in the dose of norepinephrine, a drug that supports blood pressure in ATI patients.
Three investigations were launched: the hospital launched its own administrative investigation, the Minister of Health’s Control Body also launched an investigation, and the College of Physicians also decided to investigate the case. The bottom line is that all three investigations concluded that the information indicating a suspicious death was not supported. Instead, prosecutors from the prosecutor’s office attached to the Bucharest Court continued the investigation, which has so far led to the arrest of two female doctors.
