Matira MP Eric Wamumbi has admitted that there is a rift between him and Vice President Rigathi Gachagua.
He made the admission even as he denied claims that efforts to crack down on illegal brewing in parts of Mount Kenya had suffered a setback.
Without revealing more information about the discrepancy, Wambi asked Gachagua to make the matter public, saying it was related to the alleged closure of the Karatina bar.
“I do have a disagreement with the vice president,” he said. “He should tell the truth and nothing but the truth.”
“This is about something bigger,” he said.
The lawmaker’s response came after Gachagua claimed that some officials of the Ministry of Interior were hindering the fight against illegal alcohol brewing in the region.
He spoke at a worship service at the Kiamariga PEFA Church in Matira on Sunday.
He said the officers were assisting in the reopening of bars in the area in an effort to thwart his mission to eradicate alcohol abuse.
“I heard that our local councillor has instructed security officials in Karatina to reopen the bars, allegedly on orders from higher up,” he said.
“Members cannot dictate to security officers and if security officers in the area accept instructions from councillors, we will discipline them.”
Gachagua urged officials not to reopen illegal bars that were shut down for violating alcoholic beverages and control regulations, while saying the move would amount to undermining the interests of President William Ruto and the Kenyan people.
“Some bars have already reopened. No decision has been taken by Cabinet to stop the war on illegal liquor or allow illegal liquor outlets to reopen. Any move to stop or undermine this fight is to play the president and government against the Kenyan people”.
Wamubi added that he would soon reveal the truth about their feud for people to judge.
“I will tell the truth and the people of Matira will choose which side to believe,” he said in the post.
The lawmaker, who is MP for his home state of Gachagua, recently sided with President William Ruto.
