Te Pāti Māori Party MP Takutai Tarsh Kemp has been diagnosed with kidney disease and will temporarily leave parliament.
The party announced the news in a post on Instagram, saying Tāmaki Makaurau MP Kemp was feeling unwell and had undergone a comprehensive checkup.

“I am confident of my recovery and look forward to returning with renewed vigor to continue the fight against the current government and for our communities, our families, our Mokopuna and Waitangi heritage,” Kemp wrote.
She will take a six-week leave of absence from Parliament to focus on her health and wellbeing, including undergoing a treatment programme starting today.
Kemp said she was optimistic about her recovery and thanked her family, party leaders and colleagues for their unwavering support.
Kemp wins in Oakland Only four votes away Defeated Labour MP Peeni Henare in last year’s election.
Kemp was chief executive of Manurewa Marae last year, where staff faced charges of: Census data was used to help the Maori campaign.
