The popular Te Nakula Festival, which celebrates the rich culture of Te Motu Province, kicks off in Honiara today.
The two-day event will take place at the FOFA Village until tomorrow, Saturday, July 27, 2024.
The official opening ceremony showcased vibrant cultural performances by different dance groups, followed by a speech by Te Motu Provincial Governor Stanley Tehi.
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Tehi expressed his pleasure in celebrating this historic festival with the Te Motuan people of Honiara.
“I am honoured to be part of this celebration of our cultural diversity, which plays a vital role in uniting and enriching our community,” he said.
Tehi stressed that despite its remoteness and dispersion, the festival is a testament to the unity and shared values of the people of Temotu.
“One of our strengths is that Temotu Province has a variety of languages, traditions and customs that showcase the uniqueness of a mixed culture,” he added.
The Te Nakula Festival provides Honiara locals and visitors with a great opportunity to experience the unique music, dance, art, crafts and traditional food of the Te Motu people, and provides an insight into a lesser-known region of the Solomon Islands.

The festival is free and open to the public, with Honiara residents, Temotuans, Friends, Wantoko and expatriates welcome to witness the two-day celebration.
