The two suspects, KA (28) and KS (17), were arrested by the police on August 30, 2024 after violently robbing a 42-year-old taxi driver, RM.
RM reported earlier in the day that violent robberies, aggravated assaults and attempted manslaughter had occurred at the Henar Police Station.
On August 29, a regular customer hired a driver to travel to Nickerie. Along the way, he was forced by his client and another passenger to smuggle drugs from Nickerie to Paramaribo.
When he refused, he was attacked, the passengers forced him to stop at the Middenstandspolder, tried to strangle him with a cable and finally kicked him out of the bus.
The suspect then struck him twice with his own vehicle.
RM managed to escape by hiding in bushes on the roadside and was taken to the police station by car. He was taken to Mungra Medical Centre with serious injuries, including a broken leg.
The suspect was arrested and transported to Nickerie where he has been detained pending further investigation and has been transferred to the Western District Criminal Investigation Department.
