Malawian Opposition Leader George Chaponda today met with Tanzanian political parties through the Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD), a platform dedicated to promoting democracy and constitutionalism.

The meeting was held at the TCD office in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Chaponda wrote on his Facebook page that as a Malawian opposition leader with over 20 years of political experience, he was honoured to share valuable insights and principles with his Tanzanian counterparts aimed at strengthening our democracy.

“I also conveyed warm greetings to the former President of the Republic of Malawi and Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, who fondly recalled his time teaching at the University of Tanzania,” he said.

He was accompanied on the visit by TCD Vice Chairman Her Excellency Dorothy Semu, TCD Executive Director Ms Bernadertha Kafuko, former Ambassador and Special Assistant to the late President Benjamin Mkapa, Mr David Kapya, Assistant Secretary for Political and International Relations at Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Ms Jacqueline Liana, Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Training at the Democratic Progressive Party (CHADEMA) Mr Julius Mwita, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs at the Civic United Front (CUF) Mr Jafari Mneke, Acting Deputy Secretary General of ACT Wazalendo Mainland, Honourable Shaweji Mketo and NCCR-Mageuzi Representative Mr Faustine Sungura.

The conference was a great success and fostered a spirit of cooperation and solidarity among democratic stakeholders in the region.
