AFP’s Rafah correspondent reported the new attack early Wednesday, hours after witnesses and a Palestinian security source said Israeli tanks had entered the city centre.
“People are staying at home now because anyone who moves will be shot at by Israeli drones,” said resident Abdul Khatib.
U.S. President Joe Biden has warned Israel against launching a major military operation in Rafah, but his administration insisted on Tuesday that Israel had not yet crossed a red line.
“We didn’t see them destroying Rafah,” said John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council.
