kabul publishing house?: In a disturbing development, the Taliban, identified as a Pashtun-centric terrorist group, are reportedly involved in the systematic abduction of girls from non-Pashtun communities, particularly targeting Hazara and Tajik. Recent reports from across Afghanistan have highlighted this alarming trend, with dozens of girls under the age of 18 falling victim to kidnappings by terrorist groups.
Local communities tried to intervene and free the abducted girls, but encounters with Taliban forces escalated into the use of force, leaving the girls’ fate uncertain. The gravity of the situation sparked widespread protests in cities around the world, shedding light not only on the Hazara genocide but also on the Taliban’s targeted abduction of non-Pashtun girls.
The Taliban is a well-organized group that originated in the Pashtun tribal areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan and has managed to consolidate power through violence, suicide bombings and collaboration with prominent Pashtun politicians such as Ghani Ahmadzai, Hamid Karzai and Zalmay Khalilzad. In some cases, international and regional security agencies have played a role in facilitating its resurgence.
At the local level, the Taliban’s goals go beyond violence and include the destruction of non-Pashtun cultural heritage, forced displacement, and the imposition of medieval and inhumane Pashtun traditions, known as Pashtun wali, on the non-Pashtun population . The group established a regime based on a single ethnic identity, favoring Pashtuns, and focusing on gender, excluding girls and women from social life, educational institutions, and universities.
Furthermore, the Taliban systematically eliminate the presence of girls and women from public life, deliberately restricting their access to schools and universities. The group actively indoctrinates and trains new generations in its madrasas, perpetuating the cycle of terrorism. Protesters are now urging the international community to take decisive action against the Taliban and to express solidarity with the victims of these serious human rights violations.
