The Ministry of the Suppression of Vice and the Promotion of Virtue announced in its annual work report that about half of the detainees were released after 24 hours. The press release did not specify the type of suspected crime or the gender of those arrested, according to Reuters.

Mohibullah Mokhlis, head of the ministry’s planning and legislation department, told a news conference that officials destroyed 21,328 musical instruments last year and stopped thousands of computer operators from selling “immoral and immoral” films in the market.

He said 281 members of the security forces who did not have beards had been identified and dismissed based on their interpretation of Islamic law.

After the Taliban came to power in 2021, the Morality Ministry took over the Women’s Ministry building in Kabul, which has been criticized by human rights groups and the United Nations for restricting women and blocking free speech.
