The combined operating income of 19 major Taiwanese companies that supply semiconductors and digital products to global IT giants in July increased by 21.6% year-on-year. Operating income related to artificial intelligence (AI) increased significantly. The revenue of TSMC, a global semiconductor giant, hit a record high in terms of monthly data.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Chinese version: Nikkei Chinese website) compiled statistics on the operating income of 19 major companies in Taiwan’s IT-related fields, and the results showed that the total amount in July was NT$1.4062 trillion, an increase for five consecutive months. Among them, 15 companies had an increase in revenue, and 4 had a decrease.
TSMC’s operating income in July increased 44.7% to NT$256.9 billion. Strong sales of cutting-edge semiconductors used in servers and smartphones for generative AI set a new monthly record.
Among the electronics OEM giants, Quanta Computer, which has an advantage in server OEM, saw its operating income increase by 43%. The company released a forecast on the 9th that the operating income of AI servers will double in 2024 compared with the previous year.
Quanta Computer has previously focused on OEM for personal computers, but from July to September, revenue from products other than personal computers, such as servers, will account for more than 70% of the total.
The largest electronics contract manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision Industry, saw its operating income increase by 22%. Although its main business in the smartphone field, such as manufacturing iPhones for Apple in the United States, was only the same as the previous year, the company’s AI servers, which it positioned as a new pillar, achieved significant growth.

Areas other than server-related sectors also continued to recover from the downturn in 2023. MediaTek, a semiconductor development and design giant that supplies Chinese smartphone manufacturers, saw its operating income increase by 43.6%.
ASE, the world’s largest semiconductor packaging and testing company and one of Apple’s main suppliers, saw its revenue grow by 6.7%, while Largan Precision, which is involved in the smartphone optical lens business, saw its revenue grow by 55%.
In the PC-related sector, Asustek Computer grew 26%, while Compal Computer Industries, which receives OEM orders from US companies, saw its operating income drop 9.9%.
