The 48-year-old filmmaker is likely to direct the film adaptation of Percival Everett’s novel, which will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg for his Amblin Partners company.

“Meanwhile, Huck Finn fakes his own death to escape his father, who has just returned to town. And so he sets out on a dangerous and otherworldly journey down the Mississippi River on a raft to the free states and beyond, where hope is elusive and often unreliable.”

Everett’s work has been adapted for the big screen before, with his novels Erase Made American novel Last year, the film, starring Jeffrey Wright, won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Taika has directed two films Thor series, but he explained that he had “no interest” in working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and ultimately only did it to support his family financially.
