Swaziland TV zooms in on MTN bushfire coverage
Eswatini TV covered the 2024 MTN Bushfire and provided live coverage of the festival, interviews, giveaways and real-time updates on social media.
The station was the official broadcast partner for the event and set up a studio opposite the House On Fire amphitheatre, where local and international artists entered immediately after their performances for live interviews, sharing their experiences performing at Africa’s largest multicultural event.
The talent of Swazi TV made its mark at MTN Bushfire, with event organisers arranging for a cameraman from Swazi TV to shoot the main stage, and Swazi TV presenter Bello Nkosi co-hosting the MTN Bushfire Ballantine with rapper King Terry. The TV talent did not stop there, with a team of producers, cameramen, engineers and content producers broadcasting the event experience across different platforms.
On Friday 31 May, the evening kicked off with a rousing performance on the main stage by the German-African inclusive band Seba Kaapstaad. Following their performance, the band’s lead singers Zoe Modiga and Manana took to the Eswatini TV studios for a live interview with multi-talented South African media personality William Lehong. Lehong is part of the Eswatini TV presenter team that includes Nomalumgelo Jele, Nokuphila Masangane, Chuki Dlamini and Wellington Kasonde, a Zambian Diamond TV presenter and content producer. The on-screen alliance showcased the fusion of Zambian, South African and Swazi cultures, reinforcing the multicultural vibe of the event.
The Swaziland TV studio welcomed more guests for live interviews, from artists Makhadzi, Jagermeister Brass Cartel, Bholoja, Dusty and Stones and Umuti, to organisational representatives MTN Bushfire co-founder Jiggs Thorne, Durban Tourism deputy director Winile Mntungwa and Gauteng Tourism chief marketing officer Barba Gaoganediwe. This provided a platform for artists and organisations to engage with Swazis and international audiences about their brands, and for audiences to understand the corporate and economic side of MTN Bushfire.
To engage more with festival audiences and attendees, Swazi TV gave away custom smartphone ring lights through a quiz contest hosted on its channel’s Facebook page. During Friday’s MTN Bushfire broadcast, Swazi TV’s Senior Communications and Brand Officer Nomcebo Malinga led the contest and giveaways. After giving away the ring lights, Malinga commented: “MTN Bushfire is a place where memories are made and with these ring lights, we hope to be part of people’s selfie moments.” She added that engaging audiences through giveaways and inviting organisations and media personalities to the broadcast is part of Swazi TV’s efforts to connect more with its audience and partners.
The Swaziland TV Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages increased engagement by posting pictures and videos covering the festival, which were viewed more than 15,000 times. The online campaign was endorsed by MTN Bushfire, local influencers and South African celebrities such as Mpho Pholo and Vusi Kunene, who retweeted the TV station’s uploads.
