The day before the opening of the Paris Olympics, final preparations for the opening ceremony are in full swing. Paramaribo is also celebrating this.
The French Embassy in Suriname, the French Suriname Alliance and the Suriname Olympic Committee organized a maritime parade on the Suriname River with the support of the Suriname Maritime Authority.
To mark the event, the French Navy ship “La Résolue” arrived at the Jules Sedney Port in Paramaribo in the early hours of July 24, 2024 (photo).
About 20 public and private vessels will take part in the parade, including vessels from the Suriname Coast Guard, Navy, Coast Guard and embassies of various countries. The US Embassy will be particularly visible, as the country will host the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. Access Suriname Travel’s Mi Gudu River Cruise will also be participating among citizens.
We encourage everyone to watch the parade which will take place between 2:30pm and 4:00pm on the Suriname River. From locations such as the Waterkant near Fort Zeelandia or near KFC, the French Navy ship will be clearly visible as it is anchored in the middle of the river.
Other boats will sail from the MAS to the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge and back. The flags on the bridge will remind us that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are taking place until September 8th.
The entire event will be broadcast live by ATV on channel 12.2, starting with the talk show at 2pm and ending with the live broadcast of the Paris ceremony.
