Le Faso, the Ma Patrie Movement (MFP), the umbrella of civil society in support of the transition, and the “Bassem yam pour le Faso” association, a group of traditional chiefs, have launched a “Patriotic Citizen Initiative for the Consolidation of Peace in Burkina Faso” called “Burkinasser Barbara” to strengthen the drive to restore national sovereignty and consolidate peace. The framework was launched in Ouagadougou on Saturday, August 31, 2024, with the support of the Minister of State, in charge of Civil Service and Labor, Bassolma Bazié, and the Minister of the Presidency. Territorial Administration and Mobility, Émile Zerbo.
“Burkina Celbal Baara”, an endogenous approach derived from the national language (“Celbal” in Fulfuldé means “peace”; “Baara” means “work” in Bambana), has the overall goal of mobilizing customary and traditional leaders to support with one voice the Burkinabe authorities and all combat forces in their efforts to defend and reconquer the national territory. We are therefore committed to working to restore and consolidate peace in Burkina Faso.
According to Honoré Samandoulougou, president of the organizing committee and first director of the MFP movement, in the fight against “imperialist plunder and its local dependencies”, it will carry out awareness-raising, training and questioning actions against those who engage in acts that harm the homeland.
The initiator of the initiative, Honoré Samandoulougou, expressed the wish for a quick restoration of calm, calling on every Burkinabe to do his or her part in the reconquest of the territory.
“For centuries, as a result of human actions, black people, and especially the people of our country, have experienced the worst atrocities of humanity. The most catastrophic of these strategies were slavery, colonization and, today, imperialism and terrorism. These tragedies were possible because our mechanical mechanisms of solidarity broke down at a particular moment in history. This deconstruction manifested itself in phenomena of betrayal, of turning away from our sacred values and even from moral and political authority, for the sake of profit, greed and egocentrism. (…). Through this initiative, our goal is to show once again, if necessary, that all women and men of integrity will always stand strong against international terrorism and all forms of neo-colonialism and fascistic subterfuge perpetrated against Burkina Faso and the Alliance for the Sahel States (AES); and, therefore, against all free peoples of the world”, said Honoré Samandoulougou, the main organizer, who invited the people of Burkina Faso and all of Africa to break free from betrayal and greed and not allow them to be manipulated to achieve the goals of destroying their homeland.
The first official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore seized on this framework to reinforce the efforts and determination of President Ibrahim Traoré and his Government, as well as the fighting forces, in reconquering the territorial integrity. He did not forget to pay tribute to the victims of the struggle.
This initiative and commitment aroused the admiration of the patron of the ceremony, the Minister of State, the Minister of Civil Service and the Minister of Labour, represented by its project manager, Seydou Sanou, who said on behalf of his superiors: “The motherland will thank you”, and that the government will spare no effort to support the actions of “Barra de Burkina” and any initiative aimed at consolidating peace.
The same feeling of recognition was shared by the event’s chairperson, the Minister of Territorial Management and Mobility, whose representative, project manager Naaba Saga, welcomed this approach “aimed at promoting patriotism and revitalizing the values of living together”. He urged the people of Burkina Faso to work to eliminate hatred, selfishness and division.
During the ceremony, which mobilized many people from all walks of life, customary and traditional leaders invited everyone to work towards the unity and solidarity of society. “The great struggle is won in unity. We ask everyone to take initiatives in this direction,” these community leaders called, using the framework to send a message of condemnation and sympathy for the tragedy in Balsargo.
