During high tide, the island’s west, south and east coasts will see waves of around four metres.
Today’s weather conditions will be affected by a tropical disturbance to the west of Diego Garcia and a fairly strong anticyclone to the southwest of the Mascarene. These phenomena will continue to affect the weather across the region, bringing windy and relatively cold conditions. According to the weather station forecaster, the tropical disturbance has strengthened into a tropical depression and is moving slowly to the southwest.
The sky will remain partly cloudy, sometimes overcast, with light showers in the highlands. Showers are expected during the night, mainly in the central plateau, with light fog persisting in some areas. The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in the Nouvelle-Découverte region, with 19.8 mm, followed by Mare-aux-Vacoas with 19.4 mm.
The wind will blow from the southeast at 25 to 35 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h in exposed areas. The public is advised to exercise caution, especially when operating at height and on roads, due to the crosswinds. At sea, conditions will remain choppy with waves reaching about four metres. These waves will mainly affect the lagoons in the west, south and east of the island and may break along the coast at high tide. Therefore, a high swell warning for Mauritius will remain in place until 11 am today. Fishermen, boaters and the public are strongly advised not to venture out to sea and stay away from exposed beaches.
The lowest temperatures in the central plateau will be between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, and in coastal areas will be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
