Shawn Davidson, who was remanded in jail on Wednesday for attempted murder after videos circulated online showed him brutally beating and burning his one-year-old stepson.
Davidson, from the northeast squat area of Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown District Court.
He did not have to enter a plea.
The charge states that on July 17, 2024, Davidson unlawfully and maliciously injured a child in the Northeast Squatters with intent to murder.
Videos circulating on social media depicted the horrific abuse, with Davidson seen burning the child with fire and beating him with a stick, causing the child to vomit blood.
Davidson also faces a charge of armed robbery, which he denies.
It is alleged that on January 19, 2024, he and another person robbed Ayesha Benn at Laing Avenue at gunpoint of items including a gold and diamond chain valued at $120,000, a 5p chain valued at $70,000, four gold rings valued at $20,000 and $200,000 in cash, a total of $577,000.
During the robbery, Davidson reportedly threatened Benn’s three-year-old child with a gun.
Police prosecutor Quincy Lacon strongly opposed bail, stressing the seriousness of the offences in both incidents and the involvement of children.
The prosecutor informed the court that the young victim of the abuse is currently hospitalized in a critical condition with a broken leg.
Given the seriousness of the charges, Magistrate McGusty ordered Davidson to be detained until August 14, 2024.
