Starting Monday, Sept. 2, inmates classified as “high risk” at Santa Fe will wear orange uniforms, similar to prisons in the United States and other countries.
More than 60 “high-profile” prisoners will be included in the new Penal Execution Law approved by the Ministry of Security and Justice in December last year.
The goal, according to officials, is to facilitate identification, control and visibility of the “most dangerous” inmates classified as “Tier 1.”

The legislation was approved by both provincial councils in December. Article 24 contains a dress code requiring the use of specific clothing in certain situations.
The ordinance states, “The regulations will determine the circumstances under which the use of uniforms is mandatory and may assign different uniforms based on legal circumstances, security level, designated circulation area, or the task performed by the inmate.”
