On Friday 23 August, the House Standing Committee on Justice and Security, headed by Ms. Ingrid Mijon-Derrksen, paid a working visit to the Caribbean Fire Brigade of the Netherlands (BKCN). The committee assesses and monitors justice and security policies.

During the visit, the MPs were briefed by the Commander-in-Chief, local commanders and guard duty officers. They attended a demonstration on how to rescue trapped victims, toured the unit and learned about its structure and capabilities. In addition, cooperation with chain partners and the key role the fire brigade plays in the safety of communities in the Dutch Caribbean were discussed.

The visit was very important for the fire brigade as it gave them the opportunity to highlight first-hand their working methods, challenges and critical role in island safety.

Together we build a safe Caribbean Netherlands.
