A mother is in a coma and could lose a leg after she was stabbed while taking her young children to Notting Hill Carnival, a court heard.

Police said Cher Maximen, 32, remained “battling for life” in hospital after being injured at an event in west London on Sunday evening.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, from Hammersmith, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder, violent disorder and possession of a knife.

His brothers, Sheldon Thibou, 24, from Hammersmith, and Shaeim Thibou, 22, from Fulham, have also been charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.

Sheldon Thibou was also charged with possession of a stun gun.

The Metropolitan Police said officers deployed to Notting Hill for the carnival “came across a woman suffering from a stab wound” shortly before 6pm BST on Sunday.

The court heard on Wednesday that Ms Maximan, along with her three-year-old daughter and other family and friends, was stabbed in the groin as she tried to intervene in a fight at an event in west London.

The court heard that Ms Maximan had lost 20 units of blood, had a collapsed lung and was in a coma and might also need a limb amputation.

Shakiel Tibou, of Masbro Road, and Sheldon Thibou, of Star Road, pleaded not guilty at the hearing.

Shaeim Thibou, of Charleville Road, pleaded not guilty.

District Judge John Zani refused bail to all three defendants and remanded them in custody to appear together at the Old Bailey on September 25.
