July 9, 2024 (Juba) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has called on the country’s citizens to focus on development and improving economic growth.
He spoke at the official inauguration of the new headquarters of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) in the capital, Juba, on Monday.
“I encourage the staff of the Bank of South Sudan to work with the staff of our institutions to promote positive developments by the government,” Kiir said.
“I urge other government agencies and citizens to work towards development and improving economic growth,” he added.
South Sudan’s leaders believe that a strong banking sector is key to promoting economic growth and ensuring financial stability throughout the country.
He also acknowledged the role that central banks play in regulating the banking sector.
Central Bank Governor, Dr. James Arik Garang, thanked the government for its continued support in building credible financial institutions.
He expressed optimism that the new bank headquarters will improve operational efficiency and expand public access to basic banking services.
The new bank headquarters is being built by China Shandong Hi-Speed, a state-owned capital investment company whose mission is to become a world-class infrastructure services provider.
The ceremony was also attended by Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang, who stressed the importance of the strong partnership between South Sudan and China.
Currently, China is South Sudan’s largest trading partner. Chinese companies are involved in many economic fields in South Sudan, including engineering construction, telecommunications, medical care, hotels and restaurants, and retail.
