Türkiye lifts Instagram block after nine days
The social network Instagram has been blocked in Turkey for nine days for unknown reasons, including “censorship” and illegal content.

Turkish authorities announced on Saturday evening the lifting of a block on the Instagram platform that had deprived tens of millions of users of access for nine days.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, who is responsible for Instagram, announced: “After negotiations with the head of Instagram, we will lift restrictions on access to Instagram from 9:30 pm (8:30 pm in Switzerland). “File, Abdulkadir Ulaloglu.

The platform has been blocked since the morning of August 2 for unknown reasons, including allegations of “censorship” and illegal content. On Saturday evening, the minister spoke of “content-related criminality” on Instagram.
According to him, Instagram refused to remove thousands of pieces of content related to “gaming, drugs and child abuse.” Meta denied this, claiming that it had removed nearly 2,500 pieces of content in the first half of the year as of July 31 at the request of the Turkish authorities.
But Fahrettin Altun, the communications director of the Turkish presidency, has previously accused the platform of “censorship” and confirmed that Instagram “blocked people from posting messages expressing condolences for the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismaïl Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran.”
“Digital fascism”
In turn, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday denounced “digital fascism that cannot tolerate even photos of Palestinian martyrs without immediately banning them.”
Emre Ekmekçi, vice chairman of the Turkish E-Commerce Operators Association, said more than 5 million people in Turkey (out of a population of 85 million) use Instagram, many of whom make $57 million in transactions a day.
Turkey is one of the countries with the most avid users of the popular online game Roblox, which was blocked for the fourth consecutive night on Saturday.
