Zakopane: Poland’s winter capital or the world’s navel. These adjectives also refer to the Polish town of Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains. It is a bustling tourist center where you will never be alone and never get bored. The town, with a population of about 30,000, receives more than 3 million tourists every year, which is why it dominates the list of Poland’s most popular winter resorts. Among them are also Slovaks from nearby Spisz or Orawa, who really like to “hop” to Zakopane.
Among the many attractions that Zakopane offers its visitors, one still stands out. It is related to the city center and, in particular, a one-kilometer-long, slightly sloping street – Krupówki. Over time, this street has become a phenomenon that has a decisive influence on tourism in the Polish Tatra Mountains. Krupówki Street concentrates a unique blend of typical Gora architecture, art, culture, entertainment, gastronomy and kitsch.
Poles from this city show the charm of tourism, which is reflected in the quality of services, affordable prices and opportunities to attract tourists. At the same time, Krupówki has long maintained the characteristics of a popular shopping corridor with many shops, restaurants, fast food restaurants, souvenir stalls, entertainment venues and performances of various street artists. Above it are churches, nightclubs, galleries, theaters and museums.

About two years ago, Slovak street singers and amateur musicians from around Poprad, Kežmak, Podolinec and Stary Povna discovered one of the most popular streets in Poland. On weekends, holidays or vacations, you can usually meet three Roma music groups from nearby Slovakia at the same time in Krupóki, entertaining tourists with Slovak songs or world-famous songs.
When the musicians from Slovakia started working in the most famous and frequented pedestrian zone in the Tatra Mountains, they did not receive understanding from the local police. She often chased them away, so they often moved from one end of the street to the other to continue enjoying live music. For example, one member of the group hung on a street lamp and kept an eye out for police cars approaching the performance venue in order to issue a timely warning.
However, among tourists in Zakopane they quickly became one of the favorite attractions of this mountain resort. Their popularity is also evidenced by the fact that some of the videos of their songs posted on social networks have been viewed more than a million times.
