ST. KITTS AND NEVIS (WINN): Three linemen from the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) have been sent to Carriacou, a Grenada dependency, for a two-week deployment.

On Wednesday, August 14, Dion Walters, Davel Sutton and Franklyn Pemberton departed for Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport to join a mission led by the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Company (CARILEC) Disaster Assistance Program.

A three-member team from SKELEC was sent to Carriacou to assist with power restoration efforts along with a four-member team from Nevis and other regions.

Carriacou, Petite Martinique and mainland Grenada lose power during Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.

Clive Hosten, Acting General Manager of Grenada Electricity, said his team welcomed the assistance from CARILEC. “Our GRENLEC staff have assisted with disaster recovery efforts on many different islands and we have received outstanding support through this program following Hurricane Ivan. We once again welcome the team of volunteers and thank the utility for sending their experienced team members who are accelerating recovery.”

Although external support is being provided, the Grenada Electricity Company estimates that it may take three to four months for power to be fully restored at the Carriacou Reservoir.
