Sisi calls for Sudanese unity and political solution

July 7, 2024 (Cairo) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed ways to resolve the conflict in Sudan with international officials and Sudanese participants attending a meeting in Cairo on Sunday.

Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said Sisi met with Sudanese political leaders and foreign officials, including Chad’s Foreign Minister Abderrahman Kuramala, senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, South Sudan, Germany, as well as representatives of the African Union, the Arab League, the European Union, the United Nations, and ambassadors from France, Britain, Norway and other countries.

Fahmi said Sisi thanked the participants for responding positively to Egypt’s invitation to attend the conference with the theme of “Together to Stop the War.” He stressed the importance of unifying Sudan’s views on ending the war, especially at a critical moment facing the country.

The Egyptian President reiterated that Egypt is firmly committed to bridging the differences among Sudanese factions, ending the war, restoring security and stability, and safeguarding the well-being of the Sudanese people.

He also stressed the urgent need to find a comprehensive political solution to Sudan’s multifaceted crisis in order to alleviate the serious political, social and humanitarian consequences.

Sisi reiterated Egypt’s extensive bilateral, regional and international efforts to mitigate the impact of the Sudan crisis, offering comprehensive support that reflects the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.

In addition, Sisi stressed that any transition to a political track must prioritize Sudan’s national interests and involve all relevant parties. He called for the preservation of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, which are the fundamental principles for the country’s stability and future.

The spokesperson added that representatives of Sudanese political and civil forces expressed gratitude for Egypt’s strong support and welcomed its leading role in promoting dialogue and providing humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people displaced by the conflict.
