SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man and his Malaysian girlfriend were charged with trafficking more than 3kg worth of drugs in Johor on Thursday (Aug 29), according to Malaysian media reports.

Brayden Ong, 31, and his girlfriend Wang Wee Ching, 38, allegedly set up a drug processing laboratory in a terrace house in Johor and distributed drugs in Malaysia and neighbouring countries.

“They are also suspected of producing e-cigarette liquids containing drugs and distributing small quantities of drugs through syndicate members who acted as errand boys,” Johor police chief M Kumar told a press conference, according to Bernama.

On August 17, Malaysian police arrested the couple in a raid.

According to The Star, Ong was first arrested in a house where various equipment, tools and chemicals used to process drugs were stored.

Ms Wang was then picked up by police on the roadside in Taman Setia Indah. She led police to a house in Bukit Indah and a condominium near Taman Daya, where more than RM2 million ($460,000) worth of drugs were seized.

According to Bernama, the drugs included 40 packets of ecstasy powder, 20.21 litres of ecstasy liquid, seven Erimin 5 pills, 42 MDMA pills, 40 epam nitrazepam pills and 2,600g of methamphetamine.

Police also seized cash worth about RM130,000 and S$100, drug processing equipment, precursor chemicals used in the processing, a car, jewellery and three bank accounts with a total value of RM630,596.

The police chief said the couple tested positive for drugs after they were arrested.

The New Straits Times reported that they were charged on Thursday with trafficking 2,667g of methamphetamine and 457.1g of MDMA powder on August 17.

They were also charged with possessing 1.85 grams of Nimetazepam and 2,240 milliliters of liquid MDMA on the same day.

Wang was also charged on August 17 with two counts of trafficking more than 1 kilogram of MDMA.

If convicted, they face life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
