American Simone Biles took the diving crown from Brazilian Rebeca Andrade this Saturday, her third gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the seventh Olympic title of her career.

Once again out of reach, Biles thus won another gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but three years ago in Tokyo she was unable to defend her title due to mental problems, finishing on the podium ahead of American Jade Carey, who took bronze.

Recovering from a nightmare in Tokyo, the 27-year-old Biles’ time in Paris can only be counted as golden. The gymnast with the most Olympic medals in history, 10, won every event she has competed in so far in these Olympics, which the US Gymnastics team called a “redemption” competition.

Taking into account the Olympic titles, the American star has tied with Czech Vera Caslavska, who also won seven titles in her career, and is one behind the legendary Larissa Latynina, who won nine titles, which is currently the highest number of titles in gymnastics.

Biles, the winner of 23 world titles, could equal her if on Monday she also wins the floor exercise, which she won at the Rio 2016 Olympics, and the balance beam, where she has two bronze medals (one at Rio 2016 and one at Tokyo 2020).

Andrade thus won his third medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics, after having won a silver in the individual competition and leading Brazil to a historic team bronze, raising his Olympic record to five medals, which puts him in tie with the most medals in the history of his country.
