“It will be humid over much of the country in the coming days, and it is clear that the sunshine that played with the capital’s residents earlier this week will not stay any longer. However, there are signs that the mild atmosphere will fade again by the end of next week,” Þorsteinn Jónsson, a meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, told the news agency.
It will turn to the southwest tomorrow and bring showers to the city, Þorsteinn said.
“It will also be wet in the southern half and western parts of the country this week. They are also settling in the eastern part of the country. The highest temperatures this week are likely to be in the northeast,” he said.
Þorsteinn said people in Reykjavik had a “small prelude” to summer yesterday, but perhaps the good weather will keep them happy before it ends. “We’ll see.”
However, Þorstein said all hope is not lost for those who immediately begin anxiously awaiting their trip next weekend. Despite the bold long-term forecast, the weather conditions are favorable.
“Indications are that next weekend it will be very good weather across much of the country. A deep depression is forecast for Sunday. So from next weekend onwards it is likely to be very good weather. But then it seems to be heading in the same direction again with southerly and south-westerly winds in the south and south-west of the country and bad weather.”
