Muscat: Omani shooter Sayyed Al Khatri will aim to excel at the Paris Olympics. Al Khatri arrived in Chateauroux, France on Sunday for his latest training in the men’s skeet event. He will be competing against several world-class shooters, providing him with an ideal environment to gain technical experience and the necessary skills.
The men’s skeet shooting preliminaries will be held at the Chateauroux Shooting Center from July 29 to 30. The athletes will be divided into several groups to compete. The top ranked athletes will advance to the finals to compete for Olympic medals.
Al Khatri will train under the supervision of Italian coach Luca Marini, who recently joined the national shooting team. Marini is renowned for his expertise in the sport of shooting, having coached renowned teams and shooters. This is the first time shooters at the Olympics will be allowed to train at the Châteauroux shooting centre more than ten days before the competition. Located 200km south of Paris, the centre is the largest in Europe and provides Al Khatri with the perfect opportunity to train in a top-class facility and acclimate to the Olympic atmosphere.

Al Khatri participated in the Paris Olympics after meeting all the requirements and scores to get an Olympic invitation. In addition, the good relations of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) with the Olympic Solidarity Committee and international sports federations also played a role. Al Khatri is an outstanding shooter in the national team and has achieved many major achievements and championships in his sports career. He won first place in the Kuwait Emir Open Shooting Championship last year, ranked among the top eight shooters in Asia, advanced to the Asian finals, and won seventh place in the 2023 Asian Cup held in conjunction with the Kuwait Open Championship, etc.

Meanwhile, the head of the Omani delegation, Ali bin Salim Al-Busafi, arrived on Monday to ensure that all preparations and arrangements are in place for the arrival of the national team representatives in the coming days. Al-Busafi will attend the first Heads of Delegation Meeting at the Olympic Village on Tuesday. The meeting is expected to discuss various topics related to the accommodation arrangements for the Omani delegation and the requirements for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games scheduled for Friday. Other related matters will also be discussed at the meeting, including the timing for collecting registration cards for all delegation members.
