After winning two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, South Korea’s national table tennis team member Shin Yu-bin (20, Korean Air) said, “This competition is just the beginning,” and expressed his determination by saying, “I will work hard next time and change the color of the medal.”
Shin Yu-bin and other members of the South Korean table tennis team returned to South Korea via Incheon International Airport on the 12th (Korea time) after completing their Olympic schedule.
Shin Yu-bin won bronze in the mixed doubles with Lim Jong-hoon (27, Korea Exchange) and bronze in the women’s team with Jeon Ji-hee (32, Mirae Asset Securities) and Lee Eun-hye (29, Korean Air), winning both medals for South Korean table tennis in this tournament.
Shin Yu-bin is the fourth South Korean table tennis player to win multiple medals in an Olympic Games, following Ryu Nam-kyu at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and Kim Taek-soo and Hyun Jung-hwa at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Shin Yu-bin, who returned with valuable results, said, “All the competitions I participated in this Olympics were great experiences. It was a real honor to play such a game. “Based on this experience, I want to become a player who grows further in the future,” he said.
“I think this medal is a start,” he continued. “Next time I will try harder and change the colour of the medal,” he said.
In this competition, Shin Yubin became a hot topic not only because of her competition, but also because of her “eating show” and “past videos”. The scene of him eating rice balls and peaches prepared by his mother before the competition attracted attention, and the scene when he appeared on a TV entertainment program as a child and said “I like table tennis and my friends more than rice” attracted attention. “It was hotly discussed by netizens.
Shin Yubin said, “Because I have a lot of games to play, I eat well so as not to get tired. “I eat well, and even if the game is over, I don’t feel like eating anything,” he said with a smile.
“My sisters tease me when we watch old entertainment videos,” he continued. “Now, I like my sisters more than my friends (playing in groups with them),” he responded wittily.

Meanwhile, “sisters” Jeon Ji-hee and Lee Eun-hye presented their precious medals to their “new home” 13 years after becoming Chinese citizens.
Jeon Ji-hee said, “I am very happy to have won a medal for my hard work. “I was able to win a medal after becoming a naturalized citizen thanks to the help of many people,” he said. Lee Eun-hye smiled widely and said, “I am even happier and more grateful to be welcomed by so many fans again.”
Lim Jong-hoon, who won the mixed doubles silver medal with Shin Yu-bin, said: “Thanks to Shin Yu-bin, I was able to win a medal. “I will express my gratitude individually,” he said, drawing laughter from those around him.
He went on to say: “The goal for the next Olympics is clear. The men’s singles players also worked hard this time, but unfortunately they didn’t achieve any results. “Next time, I will make sure the men’s team can win a medal together,” he said.
