On September 2, about 300 Serbian citizens gathered in front of a facility used by the Serbian municipality in North Mitrovica, saying they were trying to return to work.
Those protesting on Monday were employees of the city’s Serbian parallel municipality.
A few days ago, Kosovo authorities closed down five parallel Serbian institutions in northern Kosovo, including the parallel municipality of Mitrovica, saying they were operating under Serbian leadership “in violation of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo.”
The action taken by Kosovo institutions on August 30 was described as a unilateral, uncoordinated action by the international community and was also opposed by the main local Serb party in Kosovo, the Serbian Party, which is supported by Belgrade, and Kosovo officials in Serbia.
