Palau Koror – The Palau Council of Chiefs Rubekul Belau is preparing for the second Traditional Leaders Forum, scheduled for July 3-4, 2024, at the Koror National Stadium.
The forum, themed “Respecting, Honoring and Protecting Our Fundamental Traditional Values”, aims to address the decline of traditional customs due to the fast pace of modern life.
Focus on strengthening community values
The forum will bring together chiefs and their communities from all 16 of Palau’s states to discuss how to strengthen core social values such as respect and honor, which organizers say are essential to maintaining peace within families and clans, potentially reducing reliance on costly and time-consuming legal solutions.
“Rubekul Belau hopes to strengthen existing cultural and traditional practices by promoting respect and consideration within families, clans and villages,” said Senior Chief Reklai Raphael B. Ngirmang.
The committee believes that one strategy to achieve this is to empower existing men’s and women’s groups, which represent all sections of the village and play a vital role in organizing community events and upholding traditional values.
Forum Details
The second Traditional Leaders Forum will be held on July 3 and 4, starting at 8:00 am each day. The forum will end at noon on the second day. Invitations and programs are being distributed through Chief Rubekul Belau.
