Members of the Freedom Movement wanted to expand the agenda of the last pre-holiday session of the parliamentary foreign policy committee to include issues related to the Ukraine security agreement, but the committee chairman Predrag Bakovic (SD) does not allow this because he believes that doing so violates the rules of procedure of the National Assembly. What is behind the internal quarrels in the alliance?

Members of the Svoboda Movement proposed a resolution stating that the Foreign Policy Committee has been familiarized with the contents of the draft security agreement between Slovenia and Ukraine. In the proposal to expand the agenda, the party’s MPs attached a number of media articles that should have written about the contents of the agreement, which should be enough to familiarize the MPs with the agreement.

Bakovic said that the committee had not received either the text of the agreement or the draft agreement, which means that the committee did not know the content of the agreement, so he insisted that it could not discuss it. “Since we do not have the text of the agreement, we can only understand the intention of the Slovenian and Ukrainian governments to conclude a security agreement. Only when the committee receives the text of the agreement can we discuss its content,” Bakovic said.

He called on the government to explain the circumstances of the agreement in more detail, adding that if the government felt it should be debated in Parliament, it could also launch an initiative to that end.

Later, members of the Freedom Movement rejected the explanation of their coalition colleague Bakovic. “The National Assembly does not know what the President of the country is doing. Natasha Pielke Musar Want to sign a contract with Ukraine. The party’s MP said that the content was not presented to us verbally or in writing. Lena Gergurevich.

“Let’s say Bob Bob – this is about the Jibania Liberal Party teasing the Sustainable Development Party, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of the country, because it is an open secret that Robert Golob and Natasha Pierke Musar have a bad relationship. We can also see this in the speech of the President of the Republic at the National Day celebrations, “SDS MPs play ping-pong with coalition MPs” Zahn Mahnic.

Left opposes security agreement

“Slovenia is negotiating the agreement and once it is ready, the Foreign Policy Council will also be informed about it,” the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained. Marko StucinAccording to diplomatic sources, the Prime Minister’s Cabinet is negotiating a security agreement with the Ukrainian side.

In Parliament, many see the failed move by the Freedom Movement members as an attempt to give the Foreign Policy Council a quick and superficial look at the security agreement, allowing Prime Minister Robert Golob to sign it with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington. Diplomatic sources say that the United States is preparing a special event during the federation summit, in which all signatories to the bilateral security agreement with Ukraine will participate. Of course, Prime Minister Robert Golob’s wish is that Slovenia participates in this event as a loyal supporter of Ukraine.

The Left Alliance does not support signing a security agreement with Ukraine. “We do not believe it is necessary to sign a security agreement with Ukraine. Of course, we support helping Ukraine mainly through humanitarian aid, and any other guarantees, especially security guarantees, will only lead to an escalation of the situation in Ukraine, not calming it down.” Matej Tašner Vatovec on the left. In his assessment, the security agreement is a unilateral endorsement of the view of the situation in favor of the United States.
