Pascal Schulpf and Numa Lavanchi have come a long way – especially in the Super League.
In terms of appearances in the Swiss top flight, they are fourth and sixth among the still active Super League players: Pascal Schulpf (270) and Numa Lavanchi (236).
The GC winger and Sion full-back have faced off many times over the years. Due to their positions on the pitch, they also like to go head-to-head.
The next showdown between the two will probably take place on Saturday in Letzgrund: Schulpf, who scored a perfect hat trick in the cup match against Regensdorf, was recommended from the start, while Lavanchi is usually the seed for the Valais side.
Lavanchy has had GC experience
Schulpf, 35, and Lavanc, 30, have both played for four different Super League clubs. The common denominator is their GC: Lavanc played for Zurich for three seasons before leaving the club for Lugano in 2019 and joining Sion in 2022.
Schulpf began his career in his hometown of Basel and moved to Lucerne via Vaduz, where he became a favourite. They subsequently parted ways in 2023.
Sion plays the favorite role
Current GC players have bad memories of the last meeting with Scion. About a year ago, in the second round of the cup, the “Hoppers” quietly lost to the then Challenge League club 3-0. The Valais also headed to Zurich with confidence after three wins in four championship games, while GC, at the bottom of the standings, is still waiting for the first three points.
