Many companies are focusing on smart control of home heating with the aim of saving energy and money. Now, a Swedish company has analysed how much the savings can actually be.

Actual savings analysis
Ngenic is a Swedish energy company GödelAnalyzed how much energy the system actually saved.
The calculations were for 41 villas. For all of these sites, Godel provided detailed hourly data before and after the control system was installed.
The results showed that the total energy use of these 41 households decreased by 120,085 kWh in the winter of 2022-2023 compared to the winter of 2021-2022.
According to the analysis, this equates to a savings of 23%.
In the winter of 2022-2023, each household will save an average of nearly 3,000 kWh.
“We think this is great. We are surprised at how much we can save,” said Ngenic CEO Bjorn Berg Said to Ny Teknik.
He estimates that a reduction of 3,000 kWh equates to an average saving of 8,000 kroner, or about 700 euros.
Kapacity.io in Finland promises average annual savings of 300-500 EUR. Their software can be used for almost all geothermal, air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps with wifi. The service costs 4-8 EUR per month.

In the customer’s home, Ngenic’s control system consists of three different modules.
A control unit is installed between the outdoor sensor and the heat pump, and battery-powered sensors are installed indoors to collect temperature, solar radiation and humidity information.
The communication unit is placed in the customer’s internet router and manages the communication between the local unit and the Ngenic central system.
The system uses machine learning to optimize consumption.
