– I saw an announcement on Facebook and I was excited. I thought it was perfect for me. I had hip surgery in March and when I was able to move again, I thought I would have the energy to work again. “I applied immediately and was very happy when I received the interview offer,” said Alasenti.

When Satu Alasentie started her first shift as an office nanny in early August, the first thing she did was prepare breakfast.

– I heard from friends that grandmothers are needed everywhere. This is really a good and positive thing, says Alasenti.

Satu Alasentie retired more than two years ago. He worked two days in the previous working year.

He could still have continued, but hip surgery held him back. Now he’s fine again.

Like to work

Satu Alasentie enjoys working at Houston Inc -it company.

– The people here are really nice and I also appreciate that it’s an international working community and you can speak English.

– On my first day at work, I was happy to meet a Mexican who said that now he also has his own Finnish grandmother. I was happy that they welcomed me so warmly.

To his satisfaction, Alasenti was also invited to the company’s summer parties after the workday, which included sauna and karaoke, for example.

– I am happy when I can help. When one of the employees’ children started attending the nursery, I was reminded of my own experience. It is good to share experiences with people of different ages, says Alasenti.

With people

During the weeks when Alasenti cooked breakfast at the company, he went to work at 8 a.m.

– In Houston, you can be yourself and influence the type of breakfast you order.

Every other week, Alasenti goes a little later and does other things, like watering the flowers. And he also has time to talk to people.

– This sense of community is what interests me most, Alasenti said.

Long career

Satu Alasentie studied English at the University of Helsinki.

However, he did not want to be a teacher, so he went to work in a hotel. At the same time, he studied restaurateurism in Hagaheriya. He worked as a reception manager for a while. After that, he worked in an advertising agency.

Satu Alasenti said he would be fine in retirement. Her husband is also retired.

Alasenti currently works ten hours a month.

– When I do two hours of exercise once a week, I get 200 euros a month. Of course, this is a good supplement to the pension. It is a good reward for pampering, he says.

The salary has not been taxed yet.

– I do water sports and I am a lover of culture. I go to museums, operas and theaters. I often have lunch with friends. The money will be used for cultural activities, Alasenti said.
