ABOP MP Edgar Sampi said on Thursday in the National Assembly (DNA) that when he sees the current developments in Suriname’s Ministry of Land Policy and Forest Management (GBB), he finds the situation very bad.
“It seems that the President is creating a new department within the GBB Ministry in the Cabinet. Then what I find unacceptable is that the President wrote to the Minister of GBB saying that he is recalling the Director General of Integrated Management from the Ministry and moving him to the Land Conversion Unit.
And he has the authority or space to take several employees with him. He has six ground inspectors and five brand new vehicles … to do the work of several people. And land inspection has only had two vehicles in over four years. It’s not healthy,” Sampi said.
According to ABOP members, the five brand new vehicles may be refueled every day, while the two old ground inspection vehicles may only be refueled with 30 liters of fuel once a week.
He asked his party colleague and minister Dinotha Vorswijk to clarify this in parliament so that society can be reassured about this development.
