Ipswich, England: Second-half goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah helped new Liverpool manager Arne Sloter to a 2-0 win over newly promoted Ipswich in the Premier League on Saturday.
Ipswich, cheered on by new minority shareholder and singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran in the Portman Road stands, battled hard with Liverpool in the first half but Liverpool failed to capitalise.
After the half-time break, Slote’s new team showed clear improvement, with Jota taking the lead in the 60th minute. Five minutes later, Egyptian striker Salah completed a brilliant combination that effectively neutralized Ipswich’s attack.
Liverpool had plenty of chances to make the result more certain, but two goals were enough to help Liverpool and Slaughton get through a tricky first game of the season.
