In a spirit of listening and dialogue, more than 150 representatives from 30 countries and international organizations convened in Berlin on July 16, 2024 for the fifth General Assembly of the Sahel Alliance. Representatives from Sahel countries also participated in the event.
In his speech, Abdelsalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Mauritania, reminded participants that the Sahel region continues to face complex and multiple challenges affecting peace, security and development. He also stressed the importance of sustained engagement and international support to help the people of the region achieve food security and build resilience to climate change and refugee crises.
