Minister Nduhongirehe represents Rwanda at meeting on security in eastern DRC
The meeting was represented by the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ambassador I am sorry Olivier.
Angola’s Angop news agency explained that President João Lourenço, Ministers Nduhongirehe and Kayikwamba discussed the security situation in eastern DRC, a region at the root of the conflict between the DRC and Rwanda.
It is not yet clear what decision will be made in today’s talks, but it is expected to be announced on Tuesday, July 31, 2024.
Minister Nduhungirehe and his delegation held a discussion with RDC Kayikwamba and his delegation
In March 2024, a meeting was also held between the foreign ministers of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço, who is the coordinator for security issues in the east of the country.
In the midst of all the discussions planned by the two sides, Angolan President Joao Lourenco announced that they would not allow the problems between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda to develop to the point of war.
Congo often points to Rwanda’s involvement in insecurity in the east of the country, but Rwanda says it has no role in it because the problem is rooted in an early history when part of Congo was occupied and Kinyarwanda-speaking Congolese were murdered and even driven out of their homes.

The Rwandan speaking Nkongos decided to defend themselves and that is why they formed the M23 group so that they would not continue to be killed and subjected to genocide just because they belonged to the Tutsi ethnic group.
The international community has condemned the killing of Kinyarwanda-speaking Congolese and demanded that peace and security be restored in the country as it would lead to genocide if the killings were not stopped.
Rwanda said that as a neighboring country, it will continue to seek a lasting solution through peaceful means.
President Lourenco also met with RDC Minister Kayikwamba
