Ukraine’s president said flames could be seen inside the Zaporizhia factory, which had been occupied by Russian troops for much of the war.

In a statement from Platform X, he said radiation indicators were normal, while sharing a video claiming to show a fire, the footage of which has not yet been verified.

A local official in the Ukrainian city of Nikopol said there were unofficial reports that Russian troops had set fire to many tires at the cooling tower.

He called on residents to remain calm.

Russian authorities in charge of the plant said the fire broke out near the factory’s cooling tower and rescue teams were working to put out the blaze.
